Jere Thompson is Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ambit Energy. In 1992, Jere was also at the forefront of the telecommunications industry as it deregulated. He founded CapRock Fiber Networks to build fiber and broadband networks across Texas. As CEO, he guided CapRock into new markets, took the company public and managed its growth from infancy to 1,300 employees and $300 million in annual revenues.
Jere received a Bachelor of Science in Economics at Stanford University and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. He sits on the boards of several civic organizations, and was also Chairman and a member of the Board of the North Texas Tollway Authority for more than a decade.
Although he is usually referred to as a marketing executive, Chris considers himself an entrepreneur and a storyteller. He has spent the last 18 years helping both start-ups and multi-billion-dollar public companies create and deliver compelling stories—stories that meaningfully connect with key audiences to enhance a company’s brand and to increase sales. He manages to have fun while doing this, and usually the fun spills over to his teams.
As employee 52 at Excel Communications, Chris helped create the company’s brand and story. In 1995, Excel passed Wal-Mart and Microsoft as the fastest company to generate $1 billion in annual sales and became the fourth largest long distance firm in North America with over 6 million customers before it was acquired by Teleglobe, Inc. in 1996.
Currently the Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer at Ambit Energy, Chris leads the company’s effort to acquire residential and small business customers in deregulated electricity and gas markets across the United States through a growing base of independent entrepreneurs who are learning from him how to tell a great story.
Chris received his B.A. in English from the University of Texas, Tyler where he was named a Distinguished Alumni in 2012. He currently resides in Dallas, Texas with his wife, Lesley, also a U.T. Tyler alum. They have two daughters, Danielle and Jennifer and two dog children, Gracie and Libby.
